If Mertens’ 2024 season looked like his 2025 season, he surely would have been one of the 20 signed pros in the WFP’s inaugural season. However, the “Iron Hog” would not be deterred. He crushed the first qualifier, was the highest finishing Challenger at the first Tour Stop, was granted an automatic invite to the second Tour Stop based on that achievement, and was third amongst Challengers to Aniol Ekai (seventh) and Tudor Magda (10th) in Arizona.
Mertens has become well known for having some of the most dominant wins in competition history in recent years, and he’s continued to show that capacity on certain workouts against the WFP Pro Fields:
Winning both finals workouts by smaller margins on shorter workouts was a thrill to watch, and a forty three second win on a sub-8 minute workout at Indy Pro 3 was dominant… but beating the best field in the world by nearly two minutes on Mesa Pro 2, that is the stuff of legend…. And we can’t wait to see the legend of Colten Mertens dominant workout wins continue to unfold in the Finals.
