Vellner’s finish at Tour Stop 1 is an outlier in his career; in fact, in his entire career, it’s his lowest finish ever at a live competition. His previous low was 16th in the 2019 CrossFit Games.
That blip was short-lived, as Vellner came roaring back in a very impressive way to podium in at Tour Stop 2. After managing the day 1 workouts there, taking 11th on the 2-mile run and 12th on Pro Mesa 2, he reeled off four out of five finishes in the top-7 on the last two days of competition (and a respectable 14th on the 1-rep max clean) to fend off a hard charging Dallin Pepper and maintain a podium placement; which by our count is his 22nd elite podium finish in his star studded career… will he make it 23 in December?
