Garard is almost always a podium threat when he shows up to competitions, however, for the first Tour Stop this year he was a bit sick, and it showed in competition. This happens to competitors occasionally, and the toughest ones, which he certainly is, still find a way to make due. He scraped up enough points to finish 11th, and keep himself relevant in the touring season.
Coming off a second place finish at the Games in August, he was back to his usual threatening nature in Arizona. Jelle Hoste didn’t make it easy on him, but Garard got the last sprint off and started the weekend with a win on the two-mile run.
He would go on to end the weekend extremely impressively too, finishing third, fourth, and third, on the final three workouts and putting himself within shouting distance (22-points away) from a podium finish. The finishes of 19th on Mesa Pro 3 and 25th on Mesa Pro 4A ultimately kept him off that podium; but with more workouts (at least nine) slated for the Finals, Garard will be eager to not let this season pass by without a top-three finish, expect him to bring the fight to the field in Denmark.
